Tips On Repairing A Cracked Roof Tile
A cracked or broken tile in your roof may lead to a potential defect in the normal functioning of your roofing setup. Hence, an urgent repair work of the concerned tile is required to restore the sound condition of your roof.
Though the task of repairing a number of tiles appears more complex than fixing a single tile but things go contrasting when you exercise the norms. A single tile doesn’t set easily with the overall tile pattern of the roof.
Beforehand, observe the condition of the cracked tile closely and evaluate if it can be fixed or not. The width and penetration of the crack determines whether you should go ahead with the repair work of this particular tile or get a new tile to replace the damaged one.
With the help of an extension ladder, climb up on the roof and examine the state of the broken tile. Make sure that the ladder doesn’t wobble or fumble and is grounded firmly.
Before the commencement of the project, grab a broom and a bucket of hot water to wash the surface of the roof in order to remove debris, grease and other foreign materials from the roof. Let the tile spread dry off and meanwhile, prepare a good composition of roofing cement and water.
Once the composition of roofing cement and water is well prepared, take a putty knife and apply the cement on the cracks of the tile. The operation has to be carried out in such a way that the edges as well as the cracks of the concerned tile fill up completely. Let the setup dry overnight. Examine the status of the repaired tile after a duration of 24 hours. Also take a look at the interior walls and ceilings to notice any moisture molds or leaks around the concerned tile area.
If no problem is encountered for a duration of about 2-3 days then the success of the project is confirmed. If however a problem crops up in the form of leaks or water molds then avail the services of an expert roofer.
He would be the right person to carry out a proper replacement job of the affected tile.
